Senior Prom
For my last prom, I wanted nice photos of my friends and I. I contact my photgrapher friend, Scott Wu, who generously agreed to take the Class of 2014 Prom Photos. 60+ students showed up with their family and friends before prom at the Florida Botanical Gardens to get photos taken. This comprised of couple photos, group photos, as well as comedic ones. It was truely a great night to remember.

Gates Millenium Scholar
Being selected as one of 1000 Gates Millenium Scholars, was truely an honor. This prestigious award no only funds my entire undergraduate and partially my graduate studies, but it is an leadership program. The Gates Millenium Scholars Leadership program is deisgned to provide funds and leadership skills necessary for minorities to make a positive impact and become America's future leaders.
I would personally like to thank St. Petersurg Collegiate High School for motiviating me to pursue my higher eduation, and also St. Petersburg College for providing moral support and setting up an amazing photoshoot.

SPC Board of Trustees
Upon my arrival in the States, I had the honor of recieveing an award from the St. Petersburg College Board of Trustees. Dr. william D. Law, President of SPC, personally handed me the award. I also had the pleasure of Mrs. Metz, Principal of SPCHS, intoducing me to the board. My father, Savonn Som, also accompanied me in reciving the award.

GMS Leadership Conferance
Late September, I attended the Virgina GMS Freshmen Leadership Conferance. Aound 500 of my peers from the East coast attended. This conferance was such a moving and unforgetable experience. I mingled, made conections, and meet friends for life. The people I here were truely inspiring individuals. I was hesitant of attending at first, but I am so glad and fortunate I did. I have made conections with countless people from around the country!

USDA ARS Volunteer
Officially a volunteer for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agriculture Research Serivce (ARS) in the Chemistry Department. I will be gaining equipment and technique experience in a professional laboratory under Dr. Hans Alborn. I personally love the hands on experience both in the lab as well as the green houses. It has only been a few weeks, yet I have gained so much valuable experience and knowledge. I have recieved my first official laboratory notebook to keep a record of the experiments..
